FAQs
Who are you?
I’m Thom. Photographer, observer, the guy quietly tracking the light while your uncle tells an inappropriate story in the background. I shoot weddings, portraits, families, and editorial work across digital, 35mm film, and Super 8. Based in Sydney. Often somewhere else. I like images that feel like memory—slightly imperfect, but true.
Why weddings?
Because it’s the most you’ll ever feel in one day—and the best kind of visual chaos. Weddings are where portraiture meets documentary meets comedy of errors. I’m not here for the highlight reel. I’m here for what it actually felt like.
What kind of couples do you click with?
People who like what I do and let me do it. Usually curious, creative, emotionally intelligent types. Not bothered by a bit of grain. Know how to laugh at themselves. Know that photos are for remembering, not performing.
Do you shoot international weddings and elopements?
Yes. I’m booking Europe for Summer 2026—especially Greece and the UK. Santorini rooftops, East London warehouse parties, Cotswold manors, whatever. If it suits your story and style, I’m in.
Can we tailor a package to suit us?
Of course. If you’re planning something outside the usual—multi-day events, courthouse ceremonies, destination elopements, or a pub wedding with karaoke—let’s build something that fits.
Do you offer video too?
Not full-scale video, but I do shoot Super 8 film—real motion picture stock, rendered with all its flicker and nostalgia. It’s raw, warm, and honest. No drone shots. Just moments that move.
Are you available for our date?
Maybe. Enquire early—especially for peak weekends or European summer. Once we’ve spoken and agreed, your date is locked in.
How do you prep for a wedding?
I’ll ask questions. We’ll chat about what matters. I’ll scope your venue, timeline, and any non-negotiables. On the day, I show up low-key and ready to read the room. No entourage. No ego.
What if we’re awkward in front of the camera?
You probably are. Most people are. Doesn’t matter. I’m not interested in stiffness or performance—I’m interested in what’s real. You won’t be posed like mannequins. You’ll just be yourselves, with good light.
What happens if you can’t make it?
If I’m hit by a bus (metaphorically), I’ve got a tight list of experienced photographers I trust with my name. Your day will still be documented well. No surprises.
How many photos will we get?
Roughly 50–100 images per hour of coverage. Every photo is edited and delivered in a curated gallery that tells the full story, not just the Instagram parts.
Do you spend much time editing?
Yes. Editing is half the work. I keep colours true, tones warm, and moods consistent. Nothing plastic. No heavy airbrushing. It should still feel like you, just seen a little more clearly.
How do you use film?
I use 35mm film alongside digital for its colour, texture, and feel. It’s slower and more expensive, so it’s shot intentionally—not on everything, but woven through the gallery where it makes sense. You’ll feel the difference.
What gear do you use?
Canon digital, Canon EOS 7 for 35mm film, Minolta XL401 for Super 8. Good glass. Off-camera flash if needed. But gear’s just gear—the important part is knowing when not to use it.
Do you shoot family sessions too?
Yes—documentary-style family shoots at home or out in the world. No matching outfits or fake grins. Just your family as they are. Chaos welcome.
What if my kids are wild?
Even better. Kids who won’t sit still make the best photos. I’m not here to force smiles—I’m here to document who they are right now. Honest, energetic, a bit feral. Perfect.
Do you shoot individual portraits or studio work?
Yes, and I love it. My studio sessions lean editorial—cinematic, still, occasionally strange. Whether it’s for your book jacket, brand launch, or just because you need a good photo of yourself: I’ll make it honest and artful.
Can we do both digital and film in our session?
Absolutely. I often blend the two—digital for flexibility, film for atmosphere. It gives your gallery range and depth. Like a good mixtape, it’s better with contrast.
How should I prepare for a portrait or studio shoot?
We’ll talk beforehand—about mood, styling, lighting. You don’t need to “know what you’re doing.” I’ll guide you. Bring outfits you feel good in, and trust the process.
I hate having my photo taken. Can you still make me look good?
Yes. That’s most people. You don’t need to be photogenic—you just need to show up. I’ll do the rest.
